McNALMS Goals - 2010
McNALMS is working on some significant efforts.  More hands make the tasks easier.  If you have an interest, there is a place for your involvement.  Let us know, if you could help.

A Collaborative Partnership for Michigan Lakes

McNALMS is working with State and county agencies, Native American Nations and other environmental groups in the Michigan Inland Lakes Partnership.

Support of HB 4199 now Act 91 P.A. 2009
The law makes it a misdemeanor to transport aquatic plants on a boat or trailer.

Native Lake Shorelines

McNALMS is a member of the MDEQ’s native lakeshore partnership.  This partnership is making a significant effort to provide education to citizens about the value of native lakeshores.  It is also promoting training to landscape professionals.

Hydrilla

The aquatic plant Hydrilla  is a significant threat to Michigan waters.  The potential for Hydrilla moving into Michigan is significant.  Michigan needs to be prepared to address this nuisance plant. McNALMS is working with the Inland Lakes Partnership on an “early detection/rapid response” plan and funding.

Closing the Phosphorus Detergent Ban Loophole
The State is working on legislation that cleaning agents used in household dishwashers not contain phosphorus in any form in excess of 0.5% by weight.

Septic System Management
Septic systems can be major contributes of nutrients and pathogens to lakes.  A few counties have implemented standards that septic systems be inspected when property is sold.  The need for greater formal management of these systems is needed

Lake Management by Lake Improvement Board
McNALMS is planning a conference and manual to promote and improve the operation of Lake Improvement Boards.
